Pure Virtue (廉貞, Lián Zhēn) is the most paradoxical name in Zi Wei Dou Shu — and the paradox is the point. A star called 'pure' and 'virtuous' that classical texts associate with legal troubles, confinement, power struggles, and passion overriding judgment seems like a contradiction. But the tension is deliberate: this is a star that governs the full distance between genuine rectitude and its corruption — between authority that is actually principled and authority that has learned to perform principle while serving other ends.

At its best, Pure Virtue is exactly what its name promises: the official who refuses to be compromised, the leader who holds their position through real integrity, the person whose competitive drive is channeled into genuine achievement rather than zero-sum maneuvering. This star is associated with institutional authority, competitive drive, and the kind of political intelligence that is necessary to function at high levels of any organization.
